Interceptive Management of Class II Division I Malocclusion with Severe Overjet and Overbite Using Myofunctional Therapy: A Case Report
Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Early intervention is key in interceptive orthodontics, which focuses on correcting skeletal and dental malocclusions. Interceptive orthodontics refers to performing orthodontic therapy on young children to minimize or simplify later orthodontic treatment. Case Report: A 10 years old girl with a Class II division 1, 10 mm overjet, and 6 mm overbite, difficulty in closing the mouth and disturbing appearance. Myofunctional therapy- through the Myobrace Activities™ protocol was implemented in this case for the treatment of incorrect oral habits. After 12 months of treatment, facial photos and a cephalogram were taken, both of which demonstrated an enhancement to the patient’s facial profile. Conclusion: The success rate in this case depends on the accuracy of the diagnosis and the patient's level of cooperation.
